Confession iPhone App: Will it Bring Salvation?

image via iTunes

The Roman Catholic Church just launched an app for all tech-savvy sinners out there called Confession: A Roman Catholic App. Through the app you can “examine your conscience” and confess your sins to God without ever having to leave your home! In some ways it’s pretty convenient. Maybe you’re a living, and loving member of the Roman Catholic Church, but just don’t have the time to go to church. Well, at least you have your iPhone, right?

Is it just me, or isn’t it kind of counterproductive to have this app? You’re encouraging people to confess their sins, but isn’t laziness (aka sloth) a sin?

What are your thoughts on the app?

Actually, the app isn’t just a mini confession, it allows you to examine your conscience. You still have to go to a confessional with a priest: “it lets you pick a commandment and tick off all your sins, keeping a running tally to bring into the confessional with you” (from your engadget article).
Here’s an article that explains the app a bit more:
From this you can see it helps people figure out their sins (sometimes people forget and maybe sometimes they don’t want to admit to stuff…etc) rather than being a mini confessional. This app DOES NOT replace confession. “Only priests who have received the faculty of absolving from the authority of the Church can forgive sins in the name of Christ.”(Catechism 1495)
